DL Simon presents "For Colored Guys"
The Guild Theatre
Sacramento, CA
"For Colored Guys " inspired by the Screenplay "For Colored Girls". Papa Jenkins has moved out and into his own place without his daughter, Vivian. He creates his own position as overseer of the apartment complex. Ray Ray, a tenant, is not having it and intends to continue being Ray Ray until a life changing event wakes him up hopefully. DeShawn, a single dad, leads a quiet life where he only wants to do what's right, but that's hard to do with a spiteful baby momma. Anthony married to the idea of marriage, pulls no stops for his wife. He loves her to death. This tale exposes several aspects that our colored men go through and how they can turn the lemons they were given into lemonade. Papa is the God fearing man that has to keep the glue together in this building. But he must first lead by example. Hold on as you laugh, cry, get angry, shocked and watch how the Lord works.
This play was attended by members of Sacramento Alumnae Chapter for our 2nd Arts & Letters event of the sorority year. We enjoyed the performance and later took pictures with several cast members. Afterwards the day was followed by a soul food dinner at Broadway Soul Food restaurant located in the historical Sacramento neighborhood of Oak Park.

"The Help" The Delta Red Carpet
Is a story that is painfully honest, yet incredibly uplifting and inspiring? It is a testament to the lives of so many African-American women and offers a realistic depiction of what can happen-good and bad-when you make the decision to stand up and speak out. The film also offers a snapshot of the harsh reality of race relations in America while also addressing the unspoken power and beauty of relationships among all women, regardless of race.”
"The Help" premiered in theaters Aug. 10, and featured three members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority-Cicely Tyson, Aunjanue Ellis and Flo Roach. The premiere was attended by over 20 members of the Sacramento Alumnae Chapter. Later, on the opening weekend additional members of Sacramento Alumnae Chapter continued to support this feature film.
"The Help" is a great addition to our roster of Delta Red Carpet feature films,” said Cynthia. M. A. Butler-McIntyre, National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “I am excited that members of Delta Sigma Theta around the globe will come together to support this phenomenal film through chapter Delta Red Carpet events and by encouraging friends and family members to experience this awesome story."
On January 13, 2011, the 98th Anniversary of the founding of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., sorors attended,"Mahalia - The Greatest Gospel Singer in the World". This was a wonderful and spirit filled play by Tom Stolz, directed by James Wheatley, featuring: Elise Reese and a choir of heavenly voices. Below is a picture of sorors during intermission.

The Arts & Letters Commission supported our very own, Soror Nicole Mattox, at the Sacramento Black Film Festival on April 22, 2010 as she debuted her short film, "Ms. Understand".

On the 97th Anniversary of the founding of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., sorors attended Tyler Perry's play,"Madea's Big Happy Family". If you were not in attendance, you missed a treat! The Arts and Letters Commission encourages everyone to see this play if you can. Madea made sorors laugh, cry and left us inspired to continue making a difference on the most important date of the sorority.
